Ford Australia has doubled the size of its upcoming 2024 Transit Custom van line-up, with confirmation of two new Sport variants for our market priced from $59,990 and $62,990 plus on-road costs.
The Transit Custom Sport has long been about injecting some extra pizzazz into what’s typically an uninspiring but utilitarian vehicle segment, with the two new variants being the 2024 Ford Transit Custom Sport SWB and 2024 Ford Transit Custom Sport LWB Double Cab – both of which will launch alongside the standard vans late in the third quarter of the year.
Armed with go-faster GT stripes and unique body kits, the inbound Transit Custom Sports predictably cost more than their standard Trend stablemates – see the full pricing breakdown below – but don’t lose anything major in terms of load-lugging ability, with both variants sporting GCMs of 5525kg and GVMs of 3025kg.
For the Sport SWB that means a payload of 1023kg and a maximum braked towing capacity of up to 2500kg – something it shares with the crew-friendly Sport LWB Double Cab.
But what the flagship misses out on in payload (854kg) it makes up for in people-carrying capacity, given it’s the only variant in the range with two rows of seats.
Ford is yet to publicly announce the finer specification details of the new-generation Transit Sports in terms of their standard equipment levels, but odds are they’ll feature the vast majority of the Trend’s kit highlights including a 180-degree reversing camera, a 13-inch infotainment system, smartphone mirroring, sat-nav, wireless phone charging, 12.0-inch instrument cluster, load area protection kit, LED load space lighting and fabric upholstery.
Under the bonnet is the same 125kW/390Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine and eight-speed automatic combination as the Trends, along with the same front-drive layout.
The standard (no-cost) paint finish for the Sports is ‘Frozen White’ but five optional premium colours – Agate Black, Magentic, Moondust Silver, Grey Matter and Digital Aqua Blue – will also be available to choose from, as will a lift back rear door ($700) and windowless dual siding load doors ($1000).
A few extra features have also been added to the standard Transit Custom Trend’s standard and optional equipment lists, the main one being integrated roof racks rated to 155kg (standard), which has quietly added $500 to the asking prices before they’ve even been released.
Trend LWB customers, meantime, will be able to option the Secure Visibility Pack ($1500) and load space air-conditioning ($700), the former of which adds steel rear doors, plus a windowless metal bulkhead (without window) and a digital rear-view mirror with integrated dashcam.
