Automatic transmission used to be an expensive option for high-end trucks.
But with changing preferences and changing driver skill levels, we’ve slowly seen automatic or automated manual transmissions take over, especially in the lighter-weight trucks.
It wasn’t long ago that we saw the big Japanese companies break through the 50/50 barrier and begin selling more autos than manuals. Now, the autos are in the ascendancy and manuals are becoming more rare.
In a nod to this preference for autos, Hino Australia has confirmed its expanded range of all-new 700 Series trucks will be available exclusively with two-pedal transmissions.
“Built as a vehicle for today and for the future, the all-new 700 Series will offer customers the convenience of either a true automatic or an automated manual transmission, which are matched to their respective engine power ratings,” said Daniel Petrovski, Manager of Product Strategy for Hino Australia.
“Over the last 15 years, there has been a distinct shift away from manual transmissions towards two-pedal options.”
Hino says it is the only Japanese manufacturer to offer a true automatic transmission across its light, medium and heavy-duty model ranges.
More details about the all-new 700 Series will be released closer to its launch in June.
