German transport and logistics magazine, VekehrsRundschau and Trucker, has awarded Scania's R 450 Highline with the title of 'Green Truck 2017'.
The title's comparative on-road testing revealed the Scania achieved an impressive consumption figure of 23.7L/100km (4.22km per litre).
To claim the award, the truck was pitted against three rival prime movers with single trailers hauling up to 40 tonnes.
The Managing Director of Scania Germany and Austria, Peter Hornig, said economy and sustainability were intrinsically linked.
"Sustainability, whether through alternative fuels or fuel-efficient diesel vehicles, is a key issue for Scania and its customers," he said.
"By reducing fuel consumption, we reduce CO2 emissions and at the same time costs. Thus, sustainability and profitability go hand in hand."
