Hino takes class win at Dakar

Hino Team Sugawara has taken its sixth consecutive class win in the 2015 Dakar Rally, triumphing yet again in the Under 10-litre truck category
Hino has continued on its winning ways in the Dakar Rally, with Hino Team Sugawara claiming its sixth straight victory in the Under 10-litre truck class.
Teruhito Sugawara took victory in the class and 16th overall in the truck category, while his 73-year-old father, Yoshimasa, came second (and 32nd overall for trucks).
The Dakar's oldest competitor, this year marked Yoshimasa's 33rd year of consecutive Dakar entries – a record in itself.
Held over January 4-17, the 2015 Dakar saw competitors across four categories – car, bike, quad and truck – complete over 9000 kilometres through Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile, with the gruelling event beginning and ending in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires.
Some 43 trucks took part in this year's event.
Hino Team Sugawara campaigned two vehicles based loosely on Hino's 500 Series medium-duty model, powered by an 8.9-litre engine. The team assumed first and second positions in Stage 3 of the race – positions it maintained for the remaining 10 stages to the finish line.
After the victory Teruhito Sugawara said even more was in store from the team for next year's event.
"Compared to races up to last year, where we've been just pushing our trucks to the limit, I think we've taken a huge step forward in that the truck feels like it can do more, and that there is more room for performance upgrades," he said.
"This was a meaningful race that gave us hope for the future."
Yoshimasa said the improved truck enhanced his performance this year.
"I was in good physical condition and was able to drive comfortably despite the fact that I'm a year older now," he said.
"I think the upgrades to the truck as well as the training I've been doing has had an effect."
