The Director and Chief Operating Officer of Isuzu Australia Limited, Phil Taylor, has commended the Federal Government on its recent decision to award a 10-year, $55 million grant to the iMOVE Co-operative Research Centre (CRC) to assist in developing Intelligent Transport Systems to hone a smarter, more efficient national transport approach.
The funding will help the body continue its vital research and utilise cutting-edge technologies to aid traffic flow, while investigating systems that allow for the efficient transport of goods.
Arthur Sinodinos, Federal Minister of Industry, Innovation and Science, said iMOVE CRC's work would ultimately benefit all Australians.
"The outcomes are reduced congestion, fuel use and emissions and improved national productivity and competitiveness," he said.
Mr Taylor mirrored the sentiments, also highlighting the potential benefits for the freight transport industry in particular.
"As manufacturers strive to develop vehicles that operate more efficiently, and have less of an impact on the environment, this decision reaffirms that the Government is working towards the same goal," he said.
"This substantial grant proves that the Australian Government is serious about tackling the growing national freight task, and that they are committed to making this expansion as smooth as possible."
