Ty Jenkins of Isuzu Westar in Campbellfield, Victoria, has been named as the winner of the Isuzu Truck National Technical Skills Competition, which was held in Melbourne last week.
Ty (pictured, checking oil level) will now be joined by runner-up Travis De Lorenzo of North East Isuzu in South Australia to form the Australian team set to contest the 2015 Isuzu World Technical Competition. They will be heading to Japan under the guidance of team coach Peter Sherry, Isuzu Australia Limited's Technical and Fleet Manager, Victoria and Tasmania.
The Isuzu World Technical Competition, now in its 10th year, will take place at Isuzu Japan's Manufacturing Service Training Centre in Fujisawa, Japan, on Wednesday, November 4.
The competition will see top national contestants from around the world complete a series of exercises in a bid for global glory.
Events will include mechanical measuring, electrical diagnosis, practical assembly and repair tests, vehicle inspection, system management diagnosis and an intensive written exam.
The 2014 competition saw 31 teams compete in front of an audience of more than 800 spectators; Australia placed second at the event, repeating its 2013 performance. Around 36 teams are expected at the 2015 competition.
The national Australian competition saw Ty defeat 18 participants representing 10 dealerships.
Mr Sherry said the overall standard of competitors was steadily rising.
"I'm impressed with the level of technicians coming through this year and I'm seeing a vast improvement year to year," he said.
IAL National Training Manager, David Smith, said Australia would be well represented at this year's world titles.
"It is a great honour for Isuzu Australia to once again be invited to compete in this international event and I'm sure Ty and Travis will be great ambassadors for the organisation and our broader dealer network," he said.
"Congratulations to Ty and Travis, and good luck in Tokyo!"
