Limited Edition Legend 900 revealed

New Kenworth sends social media into a spin
Trucking social media sites went into a wild frenzy late last week when the first images of Kenworth’s next Limited Edition model the Legend 900 were posted. Kenworth sources admit they’d originally planned a big reveal for the Legend 900 at the upcoming Brisbane truck show, before the cat got out of the bag, so to speak.
What Trucksales can reveal is that the Legend 900 will still be the star attraction at Kenworth’s Brisbane truck show stand and it is the second model in Kenworth’s Legend series following on from the release of the Legend 950 in 2015, which sold out in less than 24 hours.
There is so much to take in on this truck it's hard to know where to start, but probably the first thing you notice is the old school Kenworth Bug with the serif font.
The Legend Series models embrace a retro theme, and incorporate the original branding from back in 1971 when the first Australian-built Kenworths rolled out of the Bayswater plant. But they’ve not stopped there. It continues throughout the truck.
The next thing you notice is the extra grill bars, which is something most old blokes added when they got their truck home.
Glance further around the bonnet and you notice the Kenworth badge in the old style font.
Again Cummins came to the party with old school badges for the bonnet.
Cummins was so keen in fact they even supplied the engines painted in Cummins Beige, which was their engine colour back in the '70s.
Move around a little further you notice the air cleaners have smooth chrome party hats to suit the '70s theme. Then there is the two-piece stainless sunvisor, which gives a tougher old-school look compared today's single piece visor that has a more wrap around appearance. And on top of the cab are the old-school bullet lights.
Pay attention to the exhaust and shrouds, which have been meticulously modeled on an early W-Model including the chrome elbow. The tank steps are the old traditional ribbed style with polished tanks.
Inside the cabin, the theme continues, with the Ox Blood diamond button trim embossed with Legend 900 insignia. The seats are current top of range ISRI with leather trim again embossed with the Legend 900 insignia.
The dash is the traditional flat dash, with specially built VDO gauges that carry the Kenworth Bug. The leather-wrapped sports steering wheel also gets the old Kenworth Bug.
Eaton came on board as well, supplying a custom gearshift knob with the old ‘Fuller’ branding that was prevalent in the seventies.
Not only does the cabin feature the old-style flat dash but also it includes traditional doors with a quarter vent windows. The bunk and cabin are separate items like they were back before the advent of integrated sleepers.
To finish it off, the new truck comes with custom-made black mud flaps again with the Kenworth Bug. Some good news here for those that might miss out on one of these Limited Edition Legend 900s, these mudflaps will be available from PACCAR Parts.
At the time of writing, the number of these magnificent limited edition Kenworths was being pegged at 75.
The release of this Limited Edition Legend 900 not only captures the Heritage of Australian trucking but it really shows the skills and passion of the people behind the Australian built Kenworth and why they’re the number one heavy truck builder in the country.
