Mack Anthem on point for Richers

Richers Transport was one of the first operators to take delivery of a Mack Anthem here in Australia, and since then the Queensland-based operator says the new model has consistently exceeded expectations.

In fact, over its first 200,000km the truck has returned a solid economy improvement of 0.2km per litre, while also drawing praise from its driver for its spacious cabin, comfort, and all-round driveability.

With its headquarters in Maryborough, on the Sunshine State’s Fraser Coast region, Richers delivers a wide range of general freight as far afield as Cairns in the north, down the eastern seaboard and on to Melbourne and Adelaide. Mack accounts for around 90 per cent of the company’s 100-strong fleet of prime movers – a fleet that was recently bolstered by its first Mack Anthem.

Now, following that initial Mack Anthem’s success, the operator has taken delivery of three more in recent months, such is its conviction in the product.

“For our type of work, we’re mainly concentrating on drivability, fuel economy and safety,” says Tom Richers, Operations Manager Richers Transport.

“Fuel and running costs are extremely important in our business; it's what keeps us competitive. We choose to go with Mack for the drivability; they're great for the drivers, for fuel economy, and are equipped with a good safety package. They’re great from a maintenance perspective as well; this truck hasn't spent a day off the road that wasn't planned.

“Since we’ve taken delivery of the Mack Anthem it's really performed well, and we think it’s a fleet leader in fuel. This truck carries some heavy loads, and the fuel economy is currently sitting on two kilometres to the litre, which is 0.2 of a kilometre per litre better than the previous model. Over the life of the vehicle, those savings really add up.”

However, as Tom Chapman – Vice President, Mack Trucks Australia – explains, it’s not just the bottom line that is switching operators on to the new Mack Anthem.

“As more drivers and operators climb behind the wheel of the Mack Anthem, the more positive feedback we are getting,” he says.
