MAN is doing its bit to help ease Sydney's traffic woes with the delivery of 38 MAN A95 double-deck buses to Transport for New South Wales.
Launched on Sunday in Sydney by the NSW Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Andrew Constance, the new B-Line route, running between the Sydney CBD and the Northern Beaches, will be serviced by the modern heavy-duty three-axle double-deck buses.
The A95 ultra low floor bus chassis is based upon MAN’s existing urban bus chassis range and features the Euro 5 10.5-litre D20 horizontal in-line six cylinder engine with compound turbocharging and intercooling that delivers 320hp (235kW) with 1200ft/lb (1600Nm) of torque available from as low as 1000rpm.
“The extremely low levels of driveline noise and vibration, along with low exhaust emissions, benefit both the environment and passengers,” said Clint Stoermer, National Sales and Service Manager – Bus, Penske Commercial Vehicles.
Mr Stoermer told Trucksales that the A95 has 86 seats including the driver’s seat and allows for 15 standing passengers, potentially taking nearly 100 cars off the road with each bus load. And the stunning new bodies are made by Gemilang Coachworks.
“The A95 chassis is equipped with a ZF EcoLife six-speed automatic transmission with integrated hydraulic retarder, all of which maximise operating economy and improve service life.
“The combination of stabilisers on all three axles with an extremely low centre of gravity means the on-road handling and passenger ride comfort of the A95 double-deck is simply unequaled.
“And when combined with the latest braking system technology, which includes electronic braking system (EBS) as well as electronic stability program (ESP) and roll over protection (ROP), it all makes for an extremely safe and comfortable driver and passenger experience.”
As part of the B-Line project, larger carparks are being built along the route and the buses will be running as far north as Newport bringing commuters to and from the city.
