It's really no secret that the new Scanias are in Australia doing some serious testing, and this G 500 in B-double configuration was spotted on the Melbourne to Adelaide run this week.
The G 500 denotes 500hp, the new most powerful six-cylinder of the new Scania range, and this truck is fitted to the mid-size G-series Cab. The truck was accompanied by a G 480 of the current generation.
According to our sources, the trucks were at 60-tonnes GVM, which is a decent load for 500hp, and the new truck was fitted with a local bull bar, no doubt for testing of the aerodynamics and front-axle load.
The New-Generation Scanias are to be fitted with radar cruise control, advanced emergency braking and lane departure warning.
Scania tells us that the 500hp engine provides almost the same torque (2550Nm) as another manufacturer's 540hp engine.
