Hyundai’s Mighty electric truck is delivering joinery across Sydney for workplace design and construction company, Sheldon.
The Hyundai is appropriately plated ‘ZROCO2’ and is based at Sheldon’s manufacturing facility on the NSW Central Coast. With ‘green’ electricity supply for its depot charger, it has the potential to reduce the carbon emissions output of Sheldon’s deliveries to zero.
“Why wait until the next generation of electric vehicles becomes more affordable or more widely available?” said Peter Law, founder and CEO of Sheldon.
“We wanted to get ahead and do something about our environmental impact now.”
The electric truck aligns with Sheldon’s circular economy strategy, which includes maximising the reuse of materials, using sustainably made materials and planning for a solar-powered manufacturing facility, with battery storage.
The monumental influence of Indigenous Elder, Professor Richard Swain, helped Sheldon’s fast-tracking of environmental initiatives. Richard is the co-founder and CEO of CoDesign+ Sheldon, which uses profits from office fit-outs to aid land regeneration and promote Indigenous cultural practices that care for Country.
“Richard’s influence made us realise we can’t keep waiting,” said Peter Law.
“We’re choosing to invest in our people and the planet, for future generations.”
Peter said that transport is predicted to be Australia’s largest source of emissions by 2030, if we don’t make changes now. An uptake in electric trucks will have a huge impact on reducing Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions and getting closer to the net-zero target.
Sheldon’s team says it is excited to get behind the wheel of ‘ZROCO2’ and reduce its environmental impact, one kilometre at a time.
