Toyota wins battle of the utes while RAM claims a record
Industry giants slug it out for top spot, while Big US ute has a record monthToyota and Ford will scrap it out for top-selling vehicle honours in the VFACTS sales race for the foreseeable future, thanks to the undiminished love of utes in the hearts of Aussie buyers.
It was the turn of Toyota to wrest top spot back for November 2022, when the Toyota HiLux claimed overall honours with 5440 sales against the resurgent Ford Ranger’s tally of 5073.
The Blue Oval actually sold more 4x4 versions of its new Ford Ranger (versus HiLux 4x4s) last month, but a strong performance in the fleet-driven 4x2 sub-category gave the overall win to Toyota.
Meanwhile, RAM Truck Australia has had yet another record-breaking month of both production and retail sales.
Following the recent expansion of the Melbourne manufacturing facility, a mammoth 900 full-size pick-up trucks were produced in November, while RAM Trucks Australia delivered 710 trucks to customers in the month.
“The records keep on falling at RAM Trucks Australia,” says Jeff Barber, National Manager of RAM Trucks Australia.
“The expansion of our production facility, the partnership we have with our colleagues at RAM Trucks International and our dedicated dealer network should all be proud of the continuing hard work when it comes to delivering the very best full-size pick-up trucks in Australia.

“With what’s coming down the line over the next few months and years, the future is certainly very bright for RAM Trucks in Australia,” Barber added.
Bob Graczyk, Head of RAM International, who visited Melbourne recently to see the expanded production facility, also commented: “When we first looked into the business opportunity 7 years ago and asked how big the market could be, no-one really knew what to expect, maybe 3,000, 4,000 – perhaps 5,000 units.
“It has completely exceeded our expectations and 10,000 vehicles is now realistic – who knows, we could go up to 15 or 20,000 units. The acceptance of full-size pick-up trucks by Australians is just phenomenal.”
