Last year, the Trucksales Awards were a big hit with our readers and this year it’s all happening again.
A lot has happened in the transport industry over the past 12 months, despite all the problems caused by the pandemic. We’ve had numerous new truck launches, updates and announcements, some of which are most certainly worthy of the Trucksales Innovation Award and the Trucksales Safety Award.
But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s recap on the awards and what they stand for.
The Trucksales Safety and Innovation Awards are not specifically limited to trucks but are open to all aspects of the industry including trailers, tyres, electronics and even legislation.
Safety is at the forefront of the industry and trucksales.com.au believes that any advancement in this area is a positive step forward.
“We are in a very exciting time for the industry and there’s significant development underway across a number of areas, not the least of which is safety,” said Trucksales Editor, Geoff Middleton.
“Electrification, alternative fuels, autonomous tech and advanced telemetry are just some of the areas where we are seeing advancements at a pace never before seen in the transport industry, and we believe that the best of these steps forward should also be acknowledged,” he continued.
The Trucksales Safety Award is aimed at safety but the award will not necessarily go to the company or person with the most expensive or advanced safety item – it could go to a simple idea that broadly makes trucking safer.
The winner of last year's Trucksales Safety Award was Hino for the 300 Series which brought new levels of standard safety equipment to Hino’s popular light-duty truck.
All aspects of safety will be considered when judging this award. To be eligible, the winning technology or safety advancement must be able to be purchased in a truck or associated service or vehicle before 31 December 2021.
The Trucksales Innovation Award will acknowledge key advancements that benefit the industry and its stakeholders. All aspects of innovation will be considered when judging this award and unlike the Trucksales Safety Award, may be won by a concept or pre-production innovation.
Last year's winner was the Freightliner Cascadia, which brought new levels of innovation, technology and indeed safety to the bonneted truck market
“With innovation at the core of Carsales.com Ltd’s culture, Trucksales takes safety and innovation very seriously and we are not about giving everyone a prize – safety is always paramount when reporting on the industry or reviewing trucks,” said Middleton.
“These awards are designed to acknowledge companies that are the forefront of both safety and innovation in the trucking industry,” he concluded.
We will be announcing the short-listed finalists of the Trucksales Awards before the end of the year; the winners of the 2022 Trucksales Safety Award and 2022 Trucksales Innovation Award will be announced in January 2022.
