Unimog secures New Zealand Defence deal

61 Mercedes-Benz tough-trucks heading to New Zealand for training, transport, emergency, and disaster relief operations

Daimler Truck Defence has secured a contract to supply 61 Mercedes-Benz Unimog vehicles to the New Zealand Defence Force under a fleet renewal initiative.

The phased deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027 to support training, transport, emergency, and disaster relief operations, and add to existing military-spec Unimogs already in operation in New Zealand.

Daimler Truck Defence Chief Sales Officer, Daniel Zittel, said the NDZF's decision to order more Unimogs is a strong vote of confidence in the capability, versatility, and reliability of the legendary tough truck.

"We are proud to support the New Zealand Defence Force in its daily transport, support, and relief operations with a dependable and high-performance mobility solution in the future," he said.

The vehicles are intended for day-to-day training operations and for transporting personnel and equipment within and between New Zealand military sites. They will also be used for search and rescue operations as well as for domestic humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
